ARTIST BIO

About Ong Yee Yong

Ong Yee Yong (1997, Singapore) is a printmaking artist who works in a variety of media. By examining the ambiguity and origination via retakes and variations, she tries to increase the dynamic between audience and author by objectifying emotions and investigating the duality that develops through different interpretations.
Her artworks question the conditions of appearance of an image in the context of contemporary visual culture in which images, representations and ideas normally function. By studying sign processes, signification and communication, she wants the viewer to become part of the art as a kind of added component. Art is entertainment: to be able to touch the work, as well as to interact with the work is important.
She makes work that generates diverse meanings. Associations and meanings collide. Space becomes time and language becomes image.

BUKUMINI EXHIBITION 2016

June 2016

Titled "Book Full of Dreams"

How much does a book worth in our eyes, the price or it's worth of many people reading it. A lot of books are bought and placed on the shelves while they collect dust, and people always ignore library books that are torn and dirty. In the end what makes the a book, a book? For my piece i'm challenging people how books are perceived. The different colours that is on the book represents how much people had touched it with their hands, their thumbprints that is on every page and the colour they had chosen. Each small detail of  their favourite colours, their moods, the way they painted defines the personality of this book.
